Greetings and salutations!
The Sensory Ethnography Film Project on Boxing in Cork City & County sets out to explore the sensory experiences of boxers, both within the ring and beyond it, with the aim of capturing the sights, sounds, and emotions that make boxing a unique and captivating sport. Furthermore, our project endeavours to uncover the social and cultural contexts in which this sport is situated.
As a creative practice researcher and filmmaker based in UCC, my passion for this project stems from my desire to create a film that does justice to the complexities of boxing, a sport that is often stereotyped and oversimplified in the media. Through the use of a sensory ethnographic approach, this project aims to provide a nuanced and intimate portrayal of the sport, highlighting the challenges and triumphs that boxers, coaches and trainers face in their daily lives. It is our hope that this project will inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of boxing, sparking conversations about the role of sport in our lives.
We invite you, boxing aficionado or general enthusiast of culture and sports, to peruse the website and join us in celebrating the sensory experiences of boxing. We thank you for your interest in this exciting project and look forward to your valued contributions.
